A Frigidaire refrigerator that warms while the freezer frosts has a defrost fault: the heater, the thermostat or the control. One that shows SY EF has lost its evaporator fan, SY CE is the boards not communicating, and a dispenser that stops is a board or a valve. Frigidaire chest freezers, the most common chest freezer in California garages, fail on the cold control, the start relay and the lid gasket, and uprights on the defrost system and the fan. All of it is inexpensive and available.
Ranges: igniters, elements and F codes
A Frigidaire gas range that will not light has a weak igniter; an electric range that will not heat has a bake element or a relay. F10 is a runaway temperature the control caught, F11 a stuck key, F30 and F31 the temperature sensor, and each names its part. Gallery and Professional ranges add a touch control and, on the induction models, a power board and a fan. Self-clean cycles blow the thermal fuse and cook the control on this platform as on every other.
Dishwashers, washers and dryers
Frigidaire dishwashers show i20 and i40 for drain and filter faults, i10 for fill and i30 for a leak the base caught, and lose drain pumps, inlet valves, latches and boards. The Affinity front load washers fail on the door lock, the drain pump, the boot and the bearings, with E20 for drain, E10 for fill and E41 for the door. Dryers lose elements, fuses, thermostats, rollers and belts, and often have a blocked vent behind the fault.

What Frigidaire owners ask us first.
On a Frigidaire, look at the freezer first. If the back wall of the freezer is coated in frost and the fresh food section is warm, the defrost system has stopped: the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat or the control that times them has failed, ice has built on the evaporator coil, and the fan can no longer move cold air through it. That is the most common warm-refrigerator call on this brand, and the parts are inexpensive. If the freezer is cold and clear and the fresh food side is still warm, the evaporator fan has stopped, and on models with a display that shows as SY EF, or the damper between the compartments has stuck shut.
If both sides are warm, the compressor is the question. A compressor that hums, clicks and stops is trying to start and failing, which is the start relay or the compressor itself. One that runs quietly while nothing gets cold has lost its refrigerant. A condenser coil at the back or the base packed with dust, or a condenser fan that has quit, makes a tired compressor worse, and on a Frigidaire in a hot garage it is often the whole story.
Two other codes are worth knowing: SY CE means the boards are not communicating, and a dispenser or display that has gone blank usually points at the board rather than the cooling. Usually, yes, and a Frigidaire chest freezer is one of the best repair candidates in the house. There is very little in a chest freezer, a cold control, a start relay, a compressor and a lid gasket, and the parts that fail are the cheap ones. A chest freezer of almost any age with a cold control, a relay or a gasket fault is a repair, and Frigidaire has made so many of them that the parts are on the truck. The one fault that changes the answer is a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak, because on a small Frigidaire chest the sealed system repair costs as much as a new freezer, and we say so on the phone.
The upright frost-free freezers have more to go wrong: a defrost system, an evaporator fan, a door gasket and a control. A defrost fault or a fan on an upright under twelve years old is a clear repair. Past that, an upright with a sealed system fault is usually replaced, and one with a defrost fault is usually still repaired.
What is in the freezer counts too. A chest freezer holding a season of food is worth more than the freezer, and a repair that saves the contents is a good deal even on an old unit. A full chest freezer holds its temperature for about two days closed, which is more time than most repairs need.
On the gas ranges it is the oven igniter, which weakens until it glows but never draws enough current to open the safety valve, leaving an oven that ticks, warms slightly and stays cold. The surface burners fail on spark electrodes, on a spark module that clicks without stopping after a spill or a deep clean, and on burner ports clogged by boil-overs. On the electric ranges the bake element fails first and often visibly, followed by the temperature sensor, which drifts until the oven runs hot or cold, and the control board that switches the elements.
Frigidaire ranges report their faults with F codes, and most are worth knowing. F10 is a runaway temperature that the control caught, and it points at the sensor or the relay. F11 is a stuck key on the control panel, which often follows moisture from cleaning. F30 and F31 are the temperature sensor circuit, open or shorted. F90 series codes on some models are the door lock. An oven that is dead the morning after a self clean has usually blown its thermal fuse, because the cycle runs the oven hotter than any cooking does.
The Gallery and Professional lines add a touch control and, on the induction models, a power board and a cooling fan, and both have their own failure patterns. Door hinges wear until the door will not seal, the gasket flattens and baking goes uneven.
