LG appliances are built around two ideas, the linear compressor in the refrigerators and the direct drive motor in the washers, and both are excellent until they are not. When an LG refrigerator warms, the question a technician has to answer first is whether it is a fan, a defrost fault or a board, all of which are ordinary repairs, or the compressor, which is a sealed system job with its own warranty rules. When an LG washer shows OE, UE, IE, dE or LE, the code names the system and the part is usually on the truck.

Where LG appliances fail.
Refrigerators: fans, defrost, boards, then the compressor
An LG refrigerator that shows Er FF, Er rF or Er IF has a fan fault in the freezer, the fresh food section or the ice compartment, and the fan or the ice behind it is the fix. Er dH is a defrost fault. Er CO is the boards not talking to each other. A refrigerator with no code, warm on both sides and a compressor running quietly is the linear compressor or a refrigerant loss, and that is where the warranty and the numbers need a careful look before anyone orders a part.
Washers: the code is the diagnosis
OE is drain: the pump filter, the pump or the hose. UE is an unbalanced load the machine could not correct, which on a machine that does it every cycle is suspension or a worn hanger. IE is inlet: valves, screens, water pressure. dE is the door lock. LE is the motor or its hall sensor, and on a direct drive machine that is usually the sensor, not the motor. FE is overflow, PE is the pressure sensor. Each code has a short list of parts behind it.
Dryers, dishwashers and ranges
An LG dryer showing d80, d90 or d95 is telling you the vent is restricted, not that the dryer is broken, and clearing the run is the repair. tE codes are thermistors. Dishwashers show OE for drain, IE for fill, LE for the motor and AE for a leak the base sensor caught. Ranges fail on igniters, elements, sensors and the touch control, and the induction models on a power board or a fan.

What an LG repair costs in California.
A typical LG refrigerator repair, such as a fan, a defrost part, a board, an ice maker or a water valve, lands between $180 and $480 for parts and labor after the diagnostic fee is applied. A washer repair such as a drain pump, a door lock, an inlet valve, a hall sensor or suspension runs between $160 and $450; a dryer repair between $140 and $380; a dishwasher repair between $150 and $400; a range or oven repair between $160 and $480.
A linear compressor is sealed system work, between $800 and $2,200, and before quoting it we check whether the compressor is still inside its parts coverage, because on many models it is. The diagnostic visit is $89, credited to the repair when the work goes ahead. You get the complete price in writing before any work starts, and there is no hourly rate.
The LG warranty, plainly.
Most LG home appliances sold in the US carry one year of parts and labor from purchase. Two components carry longer coverage on many models: the linear compressor in refrigerators and the direct drive motor in washers, which LG has covered for up to ten years on parts. That longer coverage is parts only; labor after the first year is not included unless your paperwork says otherwise, and on some refrigerator models LG has offered extended labor on the compressor. Your model number and the LG site are the final word.

What LG owners ask us first.
Start with the display, because an LG refrigerator usually says what is wrong before a technician arrives. Er FF is the freezer fan, Er rF the fresh food fan and Er IF the ice compartment fan, and each means the fan has stopped or is frozen into a block of ice by a defrost fault. Er dH is the defrost system itself. Er CO is the main board and the display board no longer talking, which strands the whole machine. A code on the display is good news, because each of those is an ordinary part and most of them ride on the truck.
A refrigerator with no code that is warm on both sides is a different conversation. If the compressor is running and quiet and nothing is getting cold, the linear compressor has failed or the sealed system has lost its charge. If the compressor is not running at all, the inverter board that drives it, or the main board, may have stopped it. A technician tests the boards and the compressor separately, because replacing a compressor for a board fault is an expensive mistake.
Two more causes are worth ruling out before any of that: a condenser at the back or the base packed with dust so the compressor cannot shed heat, and a door gasket that no longer seals so the machine never catches up. The one LG job that is not ordinary is the linear compressor. Replacing it is sealed system work, between $800 and $2,200, and it is the reason we check the parts coverage before we quote, because on many LG refrigerators the compressor is covered for parts long after the labor warranty has ended. When it is, you pay for the visit and the labor and the part comes under the warranty.

Generally, no, not after the first year. Most LG refrigerators sold in the US carry one year of parts and labor on the whole appliance, and then a longer warranty on the linear compressor that is parts only, commonly ten years on many models. That means if the compressor fails in year four, LG's standard terms supply the compressor and the owner pays for the diagnosis, the labor and the refrigerant work, which is the larger share of the bill. LG has offered extended labor coverage on the compressor on some models and in some programs, so the paperwork for your refrigerator, or the LG site for your model number, is the only reliable statement of what yours includes.
What that means in practice is that a warm LG refrigerator needs two questions answered, not one. First, is it actually the compressor, because a fan, a defrost fault or a board produces the same warm box and costs far less. Second, if it is the compressor, is the part still covered, and does LG require its own network for the exchange. We answer the first on the diagnostic visit. We tell you the second before we quote any labor, and if the better path is to have LG handle a covered compressor, we say so.

Almost always, because both codes point at inexpensive parts on a machine that is otherwise sound. OE means the washer could not drain in the expected time. On an LG front loader, the first thing to check is the drain pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front, which collects coins, hair ties and socks; a clogged filter is the fix on a large share of OE calls, and it costs nothing. After that the drain pump itself, a kinked or clogged drain hose, or a standpipe that is too high. A drain pump is a single visit part.
UE means the load was unbalanced and the machine could not correct it. Once in a while, that is a heavy single item, a rug or a comforter, and the fix is to rearrange the load. Every cycle, on normal loads, it is the machine: worn suspension springs or dampers letting the drum swing, a machine that is not level, or on top loaders a worn suspension rod set. Suspension parts are modest and the repair is one visit.
The washer is not worth repairing when those codes come with other wear: a front loader past ten years that also roars on spin and needs bearings, or a control board that is no longer made.
