The modern Whirlpool top loader, and its Maytag and Kenmore twins, fails on the lid lock, which shows as a lid lock light blinking and an F5 E2 code, and on the shifter actuator, which moves the transmission between agitate and spin and fails with a machine that agitates but will not spin, or spins but will not agitate.
